ONE NICE DEED HAS THE POWER TO UNITE US ALL

In 2001, in the Old City of Jerusalem, amidst the upheaval, hatred and violence between the Palestinians and the Israelis, a baby girl was left to die in a filthy, forgotten trash bin.

A Palestinian discovered the abandoned infant, and rushed her to the aid of a Christian nun, who ran an orphanage in Bethlehem.

The nun soon realized the baby was gravely ill, and took her to the only physician she knew who could help. His name was Dr. Eli Milgalter, a Jewish doctor who freely donated his time to surgically repair the infant’s malformed heart muscles.

The little girl, who is alive and well today because of the ”nice“ deeds of these three people, was named Salaam, the Arabic word for peace.

Three gestures of kindness, and one miracle of life.

Maybe Salamm’s first step is proof that one altruistic deed has the power to be the first steps towards peace.

Maybe the simple act of being ”nice“ is more powerful than anyone thought.
